what we keep, what we don’t, and no trackers watching you look at the sky.

what we keep

• What you write — star names, dedications, messages. Public words are public; words “kept on the star only” stay off the page, the link preview and search.
• Your phone number, only if you sign in — used to text you a sign-in code, and your star’s link when you ask for it. No marketing texts, ever.
• Payment — handled by PayPal. On the PayPal and Apple Pay paths no card detail touches us at all; if you type a card, it passes through our server to PayPal and is never stored. We keep the payer email PayPal gives us, so you can recover a star you paid for.

your location

Your connection tells us a rough, city-level location. We use it for exactly two things: orienting the globe toward roughly-home when the sky first opens, and computing the honest sentence about where a star sits over your town tonight. It isn’t stored. Precise location is used only if you tap to allow it, and it stays on your device.

cookies & trackers

One cookie, and only if you sign in: the session that keeps you signed in. No ad trackers, no analytics pixels, no third-party anything watching you look at the sky.

what’s public

A claimed star’s page shows its name, its number, its real catalogue facts, who it’s for if you chose to say, and — unless kept on the star only — its dedication. Your phone number, your email and your payment record are never public, and never sold or shared with anyone, for anything.

deleting

Ask — hello@starsintheskies.com — and we’ll delete your account, your messages, or the words on your star’s page. The star’s claim itself stays (that was the promise made when it was lit), but everything personal about it can go.
